History of the Hotel

A family-owned hotel in the heart of Paris...

The Hotel de Paris has been a family-owned business for 4 generations with a long history of expertise and savoir-faire.

Already an inn in 1869, the hotel was dependant on wine and carbon sales. During this time, the avenue was still called Chaussée du Maine with the number 17, which then later became number 51 avenue du Maine on 1 February 1877.

In 1890, the inn became a boarding house.

Then during the 1930s, Mr and Mrs Biscarat created the Hotel de Paris.

Mr Ayral, Mrs Biscarat's nephew, took over the hotel with his wife in 1964.

In 1968, Mr and Mrs Ayral built the small buildings of the interior courtyard. It was there that the interior gardens were created.

Then in 1970, their daughter, Françoise Ayral, and son-in-law, Denis Petitgenêt, added to this family story and launched major construction and investments, including the complete renovation of the main building (where only the walls and roof remained) and the creation of rooms with private bathrooms and WC in 1975 and 1976. In addition, they created the first rooms with private conveniences in the Montparnasse district, which at the time was completely surreal in the hotel profession.

The year 1998 was marked by the arrival of Mr and Mrs Petitgenêt's daughter, Caroline, who created new layouts with her parents throughout 1998 and 1999 in order to set up a handicap accessible entrance and specifically adapted rooms. As a result, the courtyard was then renovated and a new set up for the reception area, lounge and breakfast dining room was put into place.

Mr and Mrs Petitgenêt's second daughter, Sophie, came to be a part of this family affaire in 2012. She continues to build and modernise the hotel and its rooms with the help of the entire professional hotel staff, who has been actively present for many years, in order to meet customer needs and make their stay as enjoyable as possible.

At the end of 2012, a large survey of our customers was carried out to allow us to set up a particularly anticipated project ...

In September 2013, extensive renovation work began. This made it possible to see a new breakfast room in the form of a buffet. The Bar area has also been created, new larger and more spacious rooms, such as the Business Suites, have been created with additional space to accommodate colleagues, confreres, customers to carry out interviews ...

In 2014, all the rooms of the building overlooking Paris have received a new high performance glazing to allow you to benefit from the view of the city while preserving your tranquility. For added comfort, electric shutters were also installed.

The year 2015 saw the completion of a major renovation phase, with the transformation of corridors, new furniture, and some rooms have been transformed, including an additional room accessible to people with reduced mobility.

We have always been sensitive to welcoming people with reduced mobility in the best conditions, so we continue our approach by installing a new reception point, an accessibility ramp ...

The whole team of the Hotel was very happy during these 2 years to have a permanent support of the customers, encouragement and especially a positive return of the transformations. Everyone was able to note that we had respected as far as possible their expectations expressed during the satisfaction survey.

In 2016, the establishment still suffered and is still experiencing some embellishments to bring even more satisfaction to our customers. We have about 10% of the rooms to finish renovating over the next few months.

Then we still have a lot of projects to come, so do not hesitate to come and challenge us, for our greatest pleasure, because satisfying you will always be our main goal.
